“If you’re going to worry about your health, go to college” April 28, 2010

My new favorite website- About-face.org -provides visitors with access to the best and worst media uses of women’s health, weight, and objectification. One of the products on their recent “Gallery of Winners” top ten list includes the documentary America the Beautiful, produced by filmmaker Darryl Roberts. The documentary focuses on the media and modeling world’s obsession with beauty and thinness. It was released in 2008 and won numerous awards.

The above quote is from one of the models shown in the film, as seen in this preview below. Sadly, models like these are not worrying about their health and instead their success which is solely defined by their weight and beauty. Yet what they may not realize is the way that their image trickles down throughout society and that those girls who do go to college are faced with their unhealthy images and forced to compare themselves to this beauty “ideal.”
