Who is she?  

 

An author, teacher, and speaker, Courtney E. Martin does it all.  “Perfect Girls, Starving Daughters” was her first book which was awarded a Books for a Better Life nomination and addresses many of the issues Reflections focuses on.  She is also a freelance journalist, social advocate, and has made multiple national television appearances on CNN, Good Morning America, The Today Show, and more.

“Perfect Girls, Starving Daughters: How the Quest for Perfection is Harming Young Women”–
 

 

Focuses on our obsession with weight and appearance, driven by a need to do everything and do it well.  Women are pressured to be the best and this quest for perfection is driving them to engage in unhealthy behaviors and attitudes.

 
“Young, Beautiful, and (HIV) Positive”–  
 

 

Details the life of an ordinary teen diagnosed as HIV positive.  Offers a unique and optimistic perspective while documenting one girl’s journey.
“Click: When we Knew we Were Feminists”–
  
Reveals the moments when various women came to the realization and identification as feminists.  Discusses modern day feminism and who it includes and what it stands for.   
 

 

“DO IT ANYWAY: The New Generation of Activists”–
 

 

Follows the lives of 8 young adults striving to make a genuine difference in our world.  Documents the trials, obstacles, and hard work that accompany a desire an effort to implement lasting social change.
